Tree Trimming

What is Entergy’s Vegetation Management Plan?

Cycle Maintenance

Entergy maintains the trees along our Right-of-Way using a cycle maintenance program. Cycle maintenance means that we determine how often we need to prune trees in your area to maintain safe and reliable service. A cycle refers to the number of growing seasons between pruning.

For example, a 5 year cycle would mean that we would allow the trees to grow for 4 growing seasons, then prune before the 5th growing season.

Every circuit in the Entergy system has its own cycle. Cycles are calculated by determining the average clearance the trees have from the power line, and how long it will take the trees to reach the wires. We store this information in a computerized model to assure that we don’t forget any circuit, and maintain the vegetation when necessary.

We maintain the trees along our lines according to nationally recognized arboricultural guidelines. We also target for removal any trees that could pose a threat to the power lines. It’s all part and parcel of keeping the lights on for you!

Customer Requests

You can do your part to help our Vegetation staff keep your lights on. If you see a tree or branch that looks dangerous, and is near Entergy power lines, you can contact us by dialing 1-800-ENTERGY. If you’re unsure if the line in question is a power line, here are a few simple guidelines:

Primary electrical lines are usually at the very top of the utility pole. Entergy prunes trees near the primary lines during scheduled maintenance, or in emergency situations.

Service lines connect the utility pole to your house. Entergy inspects service lines during regularly scheduled maintenance, and will perform any needed pruning at that time. In cases where you need a tree removed near the service line, Entergy can disconnect the service line from your house, allowing you to hire a private tree trimmer to remove the tree.

REMEMBER : NEVER touch a wire, whether it’s running from pole to pole, from pole to your house, or is laying on the ground. If you’re in doubt, please contact Entergy.

Entergy line personnel are trained to identify potential reliability or safety threats. If you report a potential tree problem to us, a member of our line department will evaluate the situation and let you know what can be done.

Please be aware that when we prune a tree, we cannot clean up the brush left behind. In cases where large amounts of pruning are necessary, our tree trimming contractors will perform the work within 10 working days.

Our Tree Pruning Crews

We are committed to providing you safe and reliable electrical service. We’re also committed to pruning your trees professionally and to arboricultural standards designed to maintain the health of your trees.

To this end, we hire professional tree trimming contractors and conduct annual training to assure adherence to Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, the latest arboricultural techniques, and safety procedures. We want to make your tree pruning experience as painless and professional as possible for you.
