Net Metering for Renewable Energy Resources
Entergy Louisiana provides customers with the ability to reduce their electric
utility bills and to help reduce the use of non renewable fuel sources through
Entergy’s Net Metering Program. Net Metering is available to residential
generation facilities up to 25 kilowatts and commercial generation facilities
up to 300 kilowatts who do not have any other generator connected to the grid.
Customers who have small gas or diesel power generators that do not meet these
qualifications may want to explore this link.
Customers who wish to participate in Entergy’s Net Metering program to utilize
renewable energy resources, such as solar, wind and/or bio fuels; can do so by
installing generation equipment approved by Entergy for interconnecting with
Entergy’s electrical distribution grid; approved generation systems must
comply with Entergy’s Interconnection Standard. For a copy of Entergy’s Safety
and Interconnection Standard, click

-
Obtain all permits required by local authorities before the Net Meter can be
installed

Net Metering Billing
After Entergy’s approval of the customer’s generation facility, Entergy will
install a Net Meter to register the amount of energy supplied to the grid
through the use of renewable energy sources. The Net Meter will replace the
traditional electrical meter and will register the amount of electricity
purchased from and supplied to the utility.
In the Net Metering program the customer will be billed the difference between
the kWh’s purchased and the kWh's supplied to the grid.
The customer’s Net Metered utility bill is reflected as such:
Energy Supplied by Entergy (kWh)
- Energy
Exported to Entergy’s grid by customer (kWh)
Net Energy
amount Billed to Customer (kWh)
If a customer supplies more electricity than is purchased in a given month,
the customer receives the minimum bill. The excess Kwh’s are credited to the
customers account and the credit is applied to the following month’s bill.
Any payment for excess Kwh’s supplied to the grid will be made when the
account is finalized and the service is discontinued.
