P. J. Martinez - Vice President, Distribution Operations
P. J. Martinez, formerly vice president of strategic initiatives, is vice
president, distribution operations, Louisiana. He is responsible for
overseeing electric service and reliability to well over one million customers
in the state and reports to Louisiana president and CEO Renae Conley and New
Orleans chairman and CEO Rod West. He has led the Louisiana operations group
since 2004.
Martinez joined Entergy in June 1981 and was previously responsible for the
performance of Entergy’s utility operations six sigma projects and the
management of the strategic initiatives functions, including benchmarking.
Prior to being named vice president of strategic initiatives, Martinez was
distribution operations director for Entergy Arkansas, a post he held from
1999 to 2001.
He brings a broad range of experience to Entergy in fossil, substation,
transmission and distribution operations. His career includes foreign
assignments in Australia, Argentina, and the United Kingdom. Martinez led the
Entergy acquisition teams in the $2.2 billion purchase of London Electricity
in the U.K., and the $1.2 billion acquisition of Citipower in Australia. He
served as Citipower’s general manager of distribution from 1996 to 1998. In
that role, he led Citipower’s distribution business to World Best Practice
performance in the areas of cost efficiency and service reliability.
A recognized leader in the power engineering field, Hispanic Engineer &
Information Technology magazine named Martinez a "Hispanic Power Hitter" in
its spring 2002 issue, one of only two Entergy employees to receive that
recognition. In 2006, the magazine announced that Martinez had been selected
as one of the nation’s Most Important Hispanics in Technology and Business. It
is the second year that Martinez has received the honor, also being named to
the list in the June 2003 edition of the magazine. Martinez has received the
Pinnacle and Chairman’s Awards from Entergy’s CEO and Chairman for his
outstanding contributions. He received the University of New Orleans
Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award in 1999.
Born in Cuba, Martinez immigrated to the United States in 1967. He earned a
bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of
New Orleans in 1981, and received his master of business administration from
UNO in 1988.
